Simple goodness for your skin
Gertie's Soaps are handmade in small batches with simple, natural, quality ingredients, inspired by traditional soapmaking and focused on simplicity. We use no synthetic ingredients, fake fragrance or artificial coloring in our products as they have been known to aggravate sensitive skin and could lead to other potential health problems. Healthy skin is our overall goal and real natural soap is an easy way to achieve it!
Real natural soap is created by mixing together oils and lye. The reaction that takes place is called saponification and the result is a combination of soap and glycerin. Glycerin is a natural humectant, that attracts moisture to your skin. Commercial soap manufacturers separate the glycerin from the soap to sell or use in other more expensive products and replace it with synthetic detergents and foaming agents to simulate the properties that were naturally occuring in the glycerin. A good rule to remember is that if you can't pronounce the ingredients on the label, put the product down and walk away! You want to clean, refresh and moisturize your skin, not pollute it with chemicals!
Gertie's soaps are considered "superfatted", which means they contain more oils than are necessary for the saponification process. These excess oils are absorbed into your skin as you wash, helping to nourish and moisturize your skin and bring it back to its natural PH levels.
I began this journey by making soap for my family and fell in love with the process of soapmaking as well as the finished product. It brings me great pleasure to be able to share my soaps and sundries with you and your family. I truly believe that once you have experienced the simple goodness of Gertie's Soaps, you will never be satisfied with store-bought commercial bars again. No toxins, or chemicals, only real soap.
